Elect Tony Baker for GRPS School Board
The knowledge and skills to create thoughtful community partnerships to build first class schools
May 6, 2008
Open Letter Regarding Recent News Events:This GRPS school board election has become something much
different than I would have imagined. I entered this race because I like
schools and believe in contributing to the future of all of our children. I
have worked very hard to hear from all possible viewpoints, and represent these carefully. I am an intrigued, concerned parent and community member who has
extensive professional skills to offer the district. I am not a person with my
own agenda, or an agenda for the union.
I would like teachers to get more, but
understand the constraints. I am a member of the MEA, as a faculty member at
Ferris, which explains the recommendation I received from the local teachers
union. I also believe many are trying to pit teachers' compensation against their own students. This is insulting to teachers. My children's teachers have provided extraordinary care and education.
However, I made the decision to work as a school board member to strengthen the entire institution.
I am most concerned with making our schools great. I trust that most
involved in the current disputes, including Dr. Taylor, the current board and
the teachers also share my concern for the children. I will be a servant of the school district and the children.
Hopefully, we can all get
back to this more important work.
